Civil Rights library curator and social justice advocate Andrea Blackman will serve as Nashville’s new Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer.
Mayor John Cooper announced this latest appointment on Wednesday.
“I want to welcome Andrea Blackman as Metro’s new Chief Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Officer,” said Cooper. “We’re thrilled she’s here to work on ensuring Metro government reflects the communities it serves. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are key to making a city that works for everyone.”

The Metro Nashville government website still has Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) Diversity Equity and Inclusion Officer Ashford Hughes listed as their Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer.
Prior to her appointment, Blackman worked for the Nashville Public Library as its Special Collections Division Manager, and as an adjunct professor at Lipscomb University’s School of Public Policy.
Last year, Blackman launched “Truth B Told: Conversations About Culture and Power,” a Nashville Public Library podcast centered around social justice issues concerning identity, race, gender, motherhood, womanhood, and humanity.
In the introductory episode, Blackman said that social justice is integral to every individual’s identity. Other episodes discuss concepts like cultural appropriation, police brutality, and white supremacy.
According to the job listing, Blackman may be paid anywhere from over $98,500 to over $128,000 a year. As The Tennessee Star reported in October, hers was one of two positions added to Metro Nashville government. The selection for the other position, Workforce Diversity Manager, has yet to be announced. Last year’s budget set aside $229,000 to hire these two new employees.
Blackman didn’t respond to inquiries from The Star about her first priorities in this position.

Imagine that—a black person in charge of diversity. All those white social justice warriors who work for Metro will get a taste of diversity when she replaces them with black people.

Total waste of money and virtue signaling by the mayor. Thanks for raising our taxes to waste it on drivel like this.
It sounds like she is really (wink wink) well suited for diversity and inclusion as long as it is just about pushing ridiculous social “justice” propaganda. Well done Mayor Pooper.
